Work Boat, Lighthouse, and Waterfowl Art of the
Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic and Gulf Coasts
This July 2008 update provides my revised festival schedule for this year. There is one major change: In my last update I announced that on Labor Day weekend (August 29-31) I planned to participate in the 60th Annual National Hard Crab Derby and Fair which is held in Crisfield, Maryland, however, I have decided not make that change until 2009 so that for 2008 I will continue to participate in the Labor Day Craft Festival in Ocean City, Maryland. Also, as previously announced, I will no longer participate in the Maryland Holiday Craft Show/Home and Garden Show held in October at the Fairgrounds in Timonium each October, however, note that I will continue to participate in the Spring Craft/Home and Garden Show held two weekends each March. All dates and locations shown on my schedule are based on the best information available at this time and subject to change. Changes will be promptly posted to this web site.
This site includes images of all available art. It is primarily dedicated to signed and numbered limited edition fine art reproductions of my original art and is organized by medium; pen and ink, watercolor and oil. Note that all pen and ink limited edition images are reproduced in black and white and then are individually watercolored by hand by the artist so that no two are identical. Those interested in original art should contact me regarding availability and cost. Also note that all images of my art shown on this web site include a link to a description of each scene which can be accessed by clicking the name of the picture beneath the image which is shown in yellow. The description describes the scene and, where appropriate, includes a brief historical perspective.
All pen and ink and watercolor images are printed on high quality all rag 90 to 140 lb acid free paper using permanent pigment based ink and the number of these produced will be limited to 300 for watercolor and 325 for pen and ink.
Oil paintings are reproduced on high quality canvas. These canvas prints are mounted on standard stretcher frames used for original art and are coated with a protective UV blocking coating to protect the surface from damage and also provide full ultraviolet protection. More detail about these new prints is included on the Oil Painting page. Because of the increased complexity of this process and the time and expense involved in producing these prints the the number of signed and numbered prints to be produced of these images will be limited to 150.
I have also, in response to frequent inquiries, added a page titled About the Art which briefly describes both the techinques I use to create my original art , and, how I make my reproductions.
My central focus is on maritime and harbor scenes showing the maritime industry at work. I have a special interest in tugboats and maritime activity on the Chesapeake Bay and around Baltimore Harbor from the 1950s to the 1980s when maritime activity in the area was at a peak. Many of my customers are maritime and shipping companies who find my maritime and tugboat scenes well suited for office and conference room settings. My subjects also include scenes of Atlantic, Gulf Coast, and Chesapeake Bay work boats, lighthouses, and waterfowl.
No retail location is maintained and I work out of my home based studio. Most sales are made at maritime related art and craft festivals I participate in each year, however, purchase of art can also be arranged by contacting the me at maritime_one@msn.com .
