Sterling and Yeomac represent a type of Chesapeake Bay watercraft seen infrequently today. Buy boats are now rarely seen and the heavier fishing craft used when Bay sea life was more abundant have been replaced by the smaller, shallow draft deadrise craft needed to compete in today's market.
The 55 foot Sterling, shown here at the city dock at Crisfield, Maryland, was built in 1928 in Ruark, Virginia. Following many years in the Bay fisheries she also served time hauling freight on the Bay. The 60 foot Yeomac was launched principally as a fishing boat in 1924 in Deltaville, Virginia and was originally named the Zella M. Hurley.
