The refuges and marshes of Maryland are home to a wide variety of waterfowl and other wildlife.  During the winter months Tundra Swans, Canada Geese, Snow Geese, and a wide variety of migrating ducks are abundant.  Great Blue Herons, Black ducks, Nutria, Muskrat, Fox Squirrels, Hawks and Bald Eagles are only a few of the year round residents.  Ring Neck ducks migrate to Maryland each winter and are quite common.  Thier name comes from a nearly invisible very dark brownish ring around their necks.  Their dark blue beaks have a distinctive white ring near the tip.
